Actor Naseeruddin Shah is back in Pakistan for a
series of stage performances in Lahore.
Shah, revered in Pakistan, arrived in Lahore
last evening. He will stay in Pakistan for a little over a week and appear in
various stage shows, said officials of the Faiz Foundation, which invited the
film star to Pakistan.
The trust, Shah, his Motley Theatre group and
Alhamra Theatre will jointly present English and Urdu plays from December 5 to
8.
Shah told reporters he had heard a lot about the
Pakistani film Waar and would watch it during the visit.
Waar stars top film and television artistes and
depicts Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and the sacrifices made by its
security forces in the battle.
Shah said Pakistan should make socio-realistic
movies based on issues. He said he would attend fundraisers for Faiz Ghar and
the Faiz Museum and Cultural Centre, run by the Faiz Foundation Trust in
Lahore.
In 2007, Shah had worked in the Pakistani
production Khuda Ke Liye. Earlier, he had performed in another play at the
Alhamra Theatre.
He also featured in the Pakistani movie Zinda
Bhaag, directed by Farjad Nabi and Meenu Gaur. Media reports said the movie was
likely to compete for an Oscar. If so, it will be the first Pakistani film to
be sent to the Oscars in the past 50 years.
The film revolves around three men and how they
succeed in escaping their everyday reality in Pakistan.
Shah, who is fond of Pakistani food, said the
peace efforts between India and Pakistan should go on.
“Both countries should make efforts for an
improvement in their relations. It will be good for the film and theatre
industry,” he said, adding: “This is the third time I’m here with theatre
groups.
