Pakistani film Main Hoon Shahid Afridi releases in UAE

Cinema and cricket serve as a uniting platform for people from the South Asian subcontinent and Pakistani film Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, which is based on cricket, released in the UAE on Thursday.

The cast and crew of this film Javed Sheikh, Humayun Saeed, Hamza Abbasi, Mathira, Shahzad Nasib, Noman Habib and Gohar Rasheed visited the Khaleej Times office on Thursday evening to talk about their movie.

“We do not make a lot of films in Pakistan, especially a sports film. People questioned us initially as to why we are making a sports film and not some entertaining romantic film but we were confident about our subject and hence decided to go ahead with this project,” said lead actor Humayun.

The film comes to the UAE post its August 2013 release in Pakistan. “We should have released the film in 2013 but as a team, it was a learning process for us. Our distributors told us that there is still demand for this film so we are excited to bring this film for our Indian and Pakistani friends in the UAE,” added Humayun, who is also a co-producer for this film.

The film premiered in the UAE  at the Grand Cineplex on Thursday, as organised by Dream Advertising.

Javed Sheikh spoke about  the emerging market of Pakistani film industry. “It is growing day by day. Starting last year, we had three great films that came out. There was Zinda Bhaag (2013). Even though it was a Pakistani film, Naseeruddin Shah played an important role in the film. A lot of Pakistani artists work in Indian films, including myself, so it was good to see an Indian actor working in our film. Waar (2013) changed the scenario for us; it broke all previous records at the box office. There is a new cinema coming up and making good films. There are 50 films in the pipeline right now with bright new talents and infrastructure.”
